How to Pick A Paint Colour
Many people are intimidated when it comes to choosing paint colours for your home. Here are a few tips to help make the process much easier:
Choose your paint colour last – many people make the mistake of choosing the paint colour first and then trying to find things to go with that colour. There are millions of paint colour options out there – the best thing to do is choose your paint last. Once you have gathered up the rest of your pieces (accessories, pillows, art work, area rugs, etc) choose a paint that coordinates well with all those.
Think about how you use the room and what mood you want it to portray – you will probably want more subdued and calm colours in the bedrooms, colours that will promote comfort in rooms such as the living room and dining room and colours that will inspire in your office and work spaces.
Mix it up – don’t paint everything the same colour. Different rooms in your house have different functions. The wall colours do not all need to be the exact same colour.
Keep in mind what other wall colours you will see with it. You want your colours to flow together. It will help create a sense of flow throughout your house.
Lighting is KEY – the paint chip is going to look very different with the lighting in the store than it will in your own home. If there is the option to choose a larger paint swatch, DO IT! Bring it home and look at it – on every different wall, in different areas of the wall and at different times throughout the day. Often you can buy tester pots of paint which will help you get more of a vision of the colour on your wall.
